Tucked away in a shopping center on the West Side of Spartanburg, Ice Creams and Coffee Beans has been in the game since 1987. If you are from Spartanburg, you may remember that there was a second location where Converse Deli is now, but this west side location has been open for quite a while. It came under new ownership about 5 years ago when the new owner, Abigail, couldn't bear to live without the well-known strawberry tea!
As the name suggests, they have ice cream and coffee...but y'all, it is so much more!!

Aside from strawberry tea, you'll find many homemade salads: chicken, tuna, egg, potato, pasta, you name it. I'd heard about the chicken salad, so I knew I had to try that one for myself. It's made with...wait for it...pineapple! I'm not usually a fan of fruit in my chicken salad (lookin' at you, grapes) but the pineapple was pretty amazing. You can choose your bread, so I went with a toasted croissant, plus some melty cheese. It turned out to be quite decadent! For my side, I tried the pasta salad which was your classic tri-color rotini with an italian-style dressing.
The richness of the sandwich balanced nicely with my other order which was a cup of the made-that-morning vegetable soup. It was a thin tomato broth with chunks of potato, peas, carrots, and corn, well seasoned, and served with a lovely corn muffin that had an amazing crunch on the outside.
I was fortunate to get to try some of the other salads as well! My favorite (aside from the chicken salad of course) was the egg salad which had a great texture - not like the stuff that is so blended you can't tell it's egg salad - and had a great hit of black pepper to it. The tuna salad was good too, not to mayonnaise-y. I also really enjoyed the potato salad which was more on the mustard side with some interesting spice to it. And be aware that the "fruit cup" is not the usual - it's bananas topped with delicious granola!
Ice Creams and Coffee Beans is a hidden gem in Spartanburg. I saw several folks coming in to pick up lunch orders for the office, plus you can get pints and half pints of many of the dishes, gallons of strawberry tea, and baked goods for your next family gathering or holiday party. Speaking of baked goods, I tried the strawberry cake (light and fluffy with a strawberry cream cheese frosting) and the pound cake (super dense with a hint of lemon, a classic). And don't forget the coffee and icecream to top it off!
